How to Speed Read

You may think that speed readers understand less than average readers but this is far from the truth. People who learn how to speed read in most cases actually understand more than slower readers. This is because while you learn to speed read, you are also learning how to comprehend what you read as well.

This works because as you read faster you attain more information and are thus less likely to get bored of what you are reading. You gain more knowledge and interest and by become more interested you naturally understand more of what you are reading.

What methods are there to learn how to speed read?

One of the most common methods when learning how to speed read is getting rid of your sub vocalization. This means when you silently speak what you are reading. Sub vocalization is what makes us read slower; therefore eliminating this will allow us to increase our reading speed.

Another known method is converting words into images. Kind of like the Egyptian hieroglyphics. By doing this you don’t have to hear the words you read, just see them. As soon as you see the word you already know what it means.

Training yourself to do this isn’t as easy as it seems because we have been taught all our lives to sub vocalize and read at an average pace. That is why there are many training courses, programs and even hypnosis techniques that teach you how to speed read effectively.
