The web also gives you resources that act as free speed reading courses. The main benefit of free courses is that well.. they are free! They often consist of websites filled with lessons and explanations of techniques. Sometimes you can find exercises that will help you improve, but the emphasis on these free courses is in you. If you don't have the drive to self-learn this skill, then you won't do much better with free speed reading courses.

MrKent's Free Speed Reading course (http://www.mrkent.com/speedread/index.asp). This is a short to-the-point speed reading method. You won't get much of an advance here, but it is a great starting point in free speed reading.

All of these free resources are fine. But you could be missing out of better programs that are paid. If you have the money, why not invest in it? I gained a lot when I first tried out a commercial speed reading program. Why? Because they help you with better exercises, techniques, explained in a much better way.
Free speed reading courses can be a great starting point, but if you have the money I recommend using it for improving your skill.
